International Guitar Month – Guitar Lessons
Looking to take your playing to the next level?
There are so many ways for guitarists to learn new tricks and techniques and we are not about to even scratch the surface with this post. Our goal is really just to spotlight a few possibilities and to get your wheels turning. Here are six resources for kicking your guitar playing up a notch, from online learning to live guitar workshops:
1) An obvious (though much overlooked place) to find a wealth of great instructions videos is a good old search on YouTube.
2) Virtual Woodshed – An ever-expanding collection of online guitar lessons. “Our goal is to produce the broadest library of quality roots music instructional videos under one roof and to have them available at the lowest possible price.”
3) BreakdownWay: “BreakDownWay.com is Jorma Kaukonen & Friends Online Guitar Lesson Workshop, brought to you by the good folks at the Award winning Fur Peace Ranch. Learn American Roots, Blues, Folk, Finger-picking and more, with enough to occupy all ranges of skills from beginner to advanced.”
4) Swannonoa Gathering: Guitar Week – Guitar Week has become one of the finest programs of its kind anywhere, staffed by some of the world’s best players and instructors. – (Jay will be a student at the 2011 Guitar Week so look him up if you attend)
5) Geoff Achison Guitar Workshop at Lichty Guitars – Learn from one of the top guitarists of our time with ten other lucky folks right here at Lichty Guitars Studios
6) Learning Folk Guitar – Designed for beginner guitarists, this booklet offers over 150 songs and exercises. There are also online sample lessons and practice CD’s. Phil Johnson, who wife Gaye are renowned Americana country musicians, is the author. His skill and expertise translate into easy to follow instructions.
