International Photography Awards – a Luthier in the Lens
Sometimes good news travels fast and sometimes it takes its time.
The deadline for the 2014 International Photography Awards is July 30th. When I received a notice about it I clicked over to the website to get a bit of photographic inspiration by looking through the Winners Gallery for 2013. I am pretty much a sucker for engaging photography. What I did not expect to find were some of my images in the midst of such distinguished work. As it turns out, one of my images of a Lichty Guitar along with a black and white series of Jay working in the shop received honorable mentions in the 2013 International Photography Awards. I am proud to share the news.
While Jay continually strives to build each instrument better than the last, capturing images that convey just how beautiful these guitars and ukuleles are is my mission.

The Luthier – taking shape, Honorable Mention
Series description – Rarely do you see the person behind the crafting of a fine instrument. They work meticulously to produce a look, feel and voice that will resonate with the player. These black and white images strive to capture the subtle look, feel and voice of luthier Jay Lichty’s love of the craft.
International Photography Awards
Colortones Honorable Mention
Description – When photographing guitars the reflections can often be the biggest challenge. Every wisp of light wants to play on the glossy finish. With this image – the reflections all played well together.
