We’re Back! Luthiers for a Cause 2022 Kicks Off!
- Stay tuned to the latest news on this project at LuthiersforaCause.org
Way back in 2017 a bit of magic happened. While attending the annual Ukulele Guild of Hawaii annual show, a few builders tossed around an idea. It went something like this – How cool would it be if a handful of builders got together and each built the same size ukulele out of the same woods and materials. It would be a fun and interesting project to compare and contrast the results. Taking it a step further, what if the ukes were auctioned off to support a worthy cause? And thus the seed was planted! Ultimately six world-class builders joined forced and dedicated their time and talents to built six extraordinary ukuleles. These six builders were: Jay Lichty, Steve Grimes, Beau Hannam, Joji Yoshida, Jake Maclay and John Kinnard. The non-profit they selected was The Ukulele Kids Club.
With the help of a small army of enthusiastic volunteers, supporters and sponsors Luthiers for a Cause was a screaming success, raising over $130,000 for The UKC! We invite you to learn more about the beginnings of this remarkable project here.
Fast forward to 2022 and Luthiers for a Cause is at it again!
… and ready to kick up some dust to help lots of hospitalized kids out and the Ukulele Kids Club. This year four custom guitar builders will each craft a one-of-a-kind guitar (four different sizes/models) out of Maple and Sitka Spruce. These instruments will be available to purchase toward the end of 2022 with the help of our amazing partners at Dream Guitars. This year’s luthiers are Steve Grimes, Jay Lichty, Peter Robson and Ben Wilborn
