We frequently have guitar and ukuleles enthusiasts from Asheville and from all over the southeast visit our shop. While Tryon is a small foothills town we are not far from several major cities. Asheville, NC is approx 50 minutes, Greenville, SC is approx 50 minutes, Charlotte is approx 1 1/2 hours and Atlanta is just under 3 hours.
When you visit our shop (by appointment only) you’ll have an opportunity to see the latest projects Jay is working on and perhaps to look through and learn about our extensive collection of tonewoods. Each set of wood has a unique tone when tapped and that is just one aspect Jay considers when designing an instrument. Next to the luthier shop is our studio where you may have an opportunity to play a selection of instruments we have in stock. Because there is no standard Lichty model (each is unique) playing a variety of instruments can give you a feel for what a “Lichty” sounds like and yet how distinct the voice of each instrument is.
While we know there are some great guitar stores in the Carolinas, when you come visit Tryon NC guitar builder Jay Lichty you will be meeting directly with the maker. We believe that when you buy a custom or handmade instrument the relationship you have with the builder is part of the magic.
