Al Petteway and Amy White Concert at Green Creek Winery
Imagine a vineyard rolling out before you across a lush green Carolina hillscape. The first hint of fall is nipping the air and the sky is shifting from bright blue to rust and then to the darkness of dusk as the sun sets. The intimate gathering is settling into their seats with glasses of the finest Green Creek Winery vintages in hand as the music begins.
On stage, amidst a collection of incredible instruments, are Al Petteway and Amy White. At the first delicate and blended notes they play the audience takes in a deep, collective breath … this is going to be good. And it was! We loved it so much we are sharing it with you.
Beyond the sheer talent of both Al and Amy, we loved the diversity of instruments they played, their warm stage presence and the multi-media show, “Land of the Sky” in which they combined live music with projections of their nature photography of the Southern Appalachians. It was a great evening.
We were fascinated to learn more about them. From their website:
Their signature sound is heard often on NPR, satellite, internet and independent radio stations. Al and Amy’s music has also been used in soundtracks for independent films including Ken Burns’ documentaries on “Mark Twain” and most recently, the Emmy Award winning “The National Parks – America’s Greatest Idea.” While living in the Washington, D.C. area, Al & Amy won a grand total of 50 WAMMIES from the Washington Area Music Association in the Folk, Celtic and New Age categories as well as 5 separate grants from the Maryland State Arts Council for both composition and instrumental performance. In 2001, Al & Amy received a coveted INDIE Award in the acoustic instrumental category from the Association for Independent Music for their album Gratitude. In 2005, Al received a GRAMMY Award from NARAS (National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences) for his solo fingerstyle guitar contribution to the pop instrumental compilation, Pink Guitar.
You can get a feel for their enchanting sound via audio recordings at their website. Here are a couple of tunes:
