It may not be the latest news, as the article we reference here was in the Winter 2015 issue of Guitarists’ “Acoustic” magazine, but better late than never as we just recently read this piece. Bonnie is a frequent face on national media these days as she plays to sold-out crowds world-wide on her latest tour. What makes this particular article so special? There is a hint in the article’s title :
“Bonnie is the queen of blues-flavored country rock but there is an acoustic side to her playing too …”
Bonnie Raitt has been noted as one of the greatest guitarists of our time and while she is particularly well-known for the hot licks and slides she masters on the electric guitar, she began her career on a flat-top acoustic. In the article Bonnie shares a bit of her acoustic journey which includes her praise for her custom Lichty Guitar. Of course, we are thrilled Bonnie loves her Lichty!
Here is an excerpt …
What acoustics do you use live?
“I’ve had the same Guild F-50 big jumbo body for many, many years; I’ve had it since 1975. I’ve got a couple of other Guilds and one I inherited from someone who passed away, and I bought a couple more just to have spares for different tunings on the road in case something goes wrong with one of them. I’ve just recently gotten a beautiful guitar made for me by Jay Lichty who’s back east in the States here. He created a beautiful guitar out of sunken redwood for me so that is something I’m using on the road as well.”
