Jay has dreamed up another dreamy instrument!
In Jay’s words … G133 is the result of an experimental project that I had been dreaming about. I wanted a light-weighted semi-hollow body guitar to play some jazz type music with. I was able to use some Port Orford Cedar wood that I bought from Les Stansell to achieve the light weight objective. The guitar is primarily made of this wonderfully light and fragrant wood bound in Koa with the only other exception being the Ebony fingerboard, finger rest and headstock face plate. I was not wanting a lot of natural, unplugged acoustical sound but have been pleasantly surprised by what the guitar decided to give me. I ended up putting some foam in the sound ports to reduce the non-amplified volume and that left me with a fairly nice tone. Electronically I used a Kent Armstrong floating pickup wired to Schatten thumb wheel volume and tone controls, which I tucked under the finger rest. I am still contemplating adding a bridge pickup to make the guitar more versatile. The tuning machines are Graph Tech Ratio with the skeleton knobs. Each tuner has its own gear ratio which does help with tuning. I had fun with this build and am really looking forward to the inspiration this guitar brings. In the recording samples the left speaker is the pickup and the right the acoustic sound.
