It Happens Every Three Years – The Guild of American Luthiers Convention
From Building a Guitar in a Week with Robbie Obrien, to guitar and ukulele listening sessions featuring dozens of beautifully handcrafted instruments, to Adventures in Vintage Guitar Restoration with Kerry Char – this year’s event was packed with practical content for everyone from the hobbyist to the pro luthier. Of course, the best part of these gatherings is the connections, conversations and inspiration that come from hanging out with a pack of luthiers. This year we were asked to jump into the ring by giving a talk which ended up being a bit of shop talk by Jay and a bit of marketing by Corrie titled Making Variety and Customization Work in a Small Shop. It really was a joy to be able to give back something to this generous community.
We really have no idea how the GAL staff does it but hats off to Tim and Deb Olsen, Todd Brotherton and the entire GAL team! They consistently pull off great events and keep a steady stream of great content coming via the GAL publication, American Lutherie.
