Japan’s Award-Winning Guitarist Coming to Tryon
Shohei Toyoda is creating an international following as he WOW’s crowds from Kyoto to Kentucky. We are honored and proud that Shohei plays a custom Lichty Guitar as he tours the world.
In July Shohei will be sweeping through the states and will spend a few days in our area. On previous visits he has played on the Main Stage at Tryon Fine Arts Center and to several sold-out house concerts in the area. This go-round he’ll be playing a few very special events. We hope you’ll join us at one or more of these events. Here are the details:
July 2nd 7-9 PM (Doors open at 6) – Tryon Depot – BYO beverage and a snack to share if you would like. While there is no cover charge, please plan on contributing a generous tip for the musician. If you plan to attend please let Don Silsbee know via email – [email protected] (he and his wife are hosting this event).
July 6th 7:30 – 9 (doors open at 7:00) – Tryon House Concert – BYO beverage to share. For a special treat this event is being catered by local chef Patricia Compton. Learn more at ChefPatricia.com. While there is no cover charge, please plan on contributing a generous tip for the musician. Please contact Corrie if you would like to attend.

Shohei is graduate of Berkley School of Music and an award-winning professional musician who resides in Kyoto, Japan. Awards include:
- 2012 First Prize and Best Arrangement Award – Japan’s National Finger-Picking Guitar Contest
- 2013 Third Place at the International Fingerstyle Championship at Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas
- 2011 – Grand Champion of the “Home of the Legends” International Thumb-Picking Contest in Mulenburg, Kentucky
