Handmade Acoustic Guitar Auction
Tryon, NC luthier Jay Lichty says “Thank you Tryon Arts and Crafts” by Donating a Lichty Guitar for the 50th Anniversary Celebration Auction
One of the most pivotal moments for Jay in 2009 was when the phone rang and he was given the news that he had a spot in a workshop to be held at the Tryon Arts and Crafts. World renowned luthier and musician, Wayne Henderson, was coming down from Virginia to teach four lucky folks how to build guitars. Given Jay had already caught the bug and was building ukuleles, the opportunity to step into guitar building under the guidance of Wayne was incredible.
For ten jam-packed days Wayne and Don Wilson, a master guitar builder in his own right, taught the group of eager learners. The end result – four beautifully crafted guitars and four really happy guys.
Jay combined all that he learned at that workshop, with what he had previously discovered as a ukulele luthier, to launch his dream job, building fine handcrafted instruments. With Wayne and Don’s mentorship the sky is the limit!
In short order word has gotten out about Lichty Guitars. He currently sells his instruments through music stores and the website, but primarily through word-of-mouth, which is resulting in a steady stream of custom-orders. A Lichty Guitar will soon be on tour with an international recording artist. You can check our “Latest News” section on the website to learn more.
As a thank you to Tryon Arts and Crafts and as a way to support a fabulous resource in our community, Jay has donated this OM for their Acoustic Guitar Auction , part of their 50th Anniversary Celebration.
This guitar has a retail value of $2,000.00. If you would like an opportunity to own a Lichty Guitar while supporting a great cause, we encourage you to attend the auction on April 24th, 2010 and to bid generously. There may even be a way for out of town folks to submit bids so stay tuned.
