L.R. Baggs Pickups and Lichty Custom Built Guitars
"The L.R. Baggs Anthem and Anthem SL, without a doubt, produce the most accurate guitar tone I've ever heard. They are well thought out, well designed and it's a joy to play with them. My personal guitar has an Anthem SL and I highly recommend L.R. Baggs to our custom guitar clients." - NC luthier, Jay Lichty, Lichty Guitars

Community Potluck at the Saluda Community Center will feature live music by Jay
The Saluda Center will have their monthly Community potluck on Thurs. June 30. The potluck begins at 6:00 p.m. and the entertainment for the evening will be Jay Lichty.
Jay Lichty has been a musician all his life. Whether it's the banjo, guitar, mandolin or the ukulele-as long as it's got strings you can find him playing it.
He has been a part of the local music scene for years. In the early days he was known for his hot licks on the banjo in bluegrass bands. More recently he could be seen on stage with Cat's...
Geoff Achsion Guitar Workshop at Lichty Guitars
It is accurate to say that this week has marked an all-time luthier high here at Lichty Guitars. First, we had the good fortune to have a seat at the sold out show at The Saluda Wine Cellar to hear Geoff Achison solo/acoustic and playing his custom Lichty Guitar. (video coming soon) Geoff is beyond amazing and experiencing him playing a Lichty was jaw-dropping! Next, Geoff came here to Lichty Guitars Studio to conduct a sold-out guitar workshop. He is a natural when it comes to teaching and all 11 participants seemed to agree that the experience...
Guitar Artwork Exhibit - Birds of a Feather Opening Night
When three incredibly talented guys got together to throw a party as a kick-off for a summer-long art exhibit - wow! was the word most often spoken throughout the evening. It's become an annual tradition for artist Clark Hipolito to have a summer show in Wilmington, NC at Deluxe, a beautiful restaurant in the downtown historic district. This year his artwork is being displayed not only on canvas but on Lichty Guitars and Allison surfboards. It is a real treat to be a part of this collaboration and the collection...

Custom Pau Ferro Guitar Makes Guitar #4 For Happy Customer
Bill Miller came by the shop last week just in time to put the finishing touches on the design for his custom Pau Ferro Guitar. It was wonderful to get in a visit and Bill is frankly becoming a pro at this. Lichty Guitars that Bill currently owns: a Honduran Mahogany Dreadnought, a Brazilian Rosewood Dreadnought (one of my all time favorite Lichty Guitars!) and a custom Patchwork Parlor Guitar (I admit this is another one of my all time favorites).
Bill and Jay work seamlessly together. Bill knows what he wants and brings great...

Build an Acoustic Guitar Workshop
This week we enjoyed a truly special time here at Lichty Guitars. After days of hard work learning each and every step of building a guitar along side Jay in the shop, Aaron Dyer put the strings on his very own handcrafted guitar. It is the first Dyer Guitar and we know it won't be the last.

International Guitar Month - The Building of an Acoustic Guitar
There is something cool that happens when a Lichty guitar player learns just what goes into the building of their custom guitar. We are often told that their deeper understanding of the care and craft behind the construction of their guitar translates into a richer playing experience.
For all you guitar players out there, whether you've got a Lichty or a Gibson, a Collings or a Martin, we'd like to take you on the journey of a custom Lichty being built. You may never play your guitar the same way again!

Custom Brazilian Rosewood Tenor Ukulele - Pure Elegance!
Julie worked with Jay on the design of her custom Brazilian Rosewood uke and their shared vision resulted in a fabulous instrument - beautiful, rich tone and beautiful to hold.
I received my custom tenor uke from Jay Lichty of Lichty Guitars several weeks ago and I have to say it is my favorite sounding and playing uke of my collection. It’s a masterpiece in workmanship and sound. I love it! - Julie Strietelmeier. UkuleleReview.com
Features: Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, Curly redwood top, ebony fretboard and bridge, koa binding,...
Spring has sprung here is Tryon and activity in the shop is buzzing.
We love having visitors stop by the shop and admittedly we love it even more when they head home with a guitar in hand that they have fallen in love it. We had the great pleasure of meeting Will and his daughter Sally this weekend. They are super nice folks and we know this guitar will have the best of homes.
The latest custom Brazilian Rosewood Guitar is coming along quite beautifully.
Jay has just finished up the built of a special custom project that includes a LR Bags Pickup - sounds incredible!
International Guitar Month Acoustic Guitar Forum
There is a difference between flipping the pages of a magazine, clicking thorough a website and participating in discussions. They all have their place and Acoustic Guitar is an example of a publisher providing this kind of multi-layer knowledge portal for guitar enthusiasts. While many of you may have picked up a copy of Acoustic Guitar Magazine before and enjoyed a good read, you might want to check out joining the online community. The diversity of topics covered is enormous and it is a great place to get questions answered, connect with like-minded...
International Guitar Month - Join a Jam
Listening to live music gets you tapping your toes and feeling it way down into your bones in a way that recorded music just can't.
For International Guitar Month why not grab your local paper and check out the calendar for your local music scene. Get out and see and hear an old favorite or experience someone completely new to you.
In our neck of the woods the possibilities are plentiful and include two upcoming events that invite folks to grab their instruments and play along.

It's hard to keep up with all the news about Gloriana these days. After 2010 - a year of awards, hits, international tours and packed stadiums they have blazed into 2011 hotter than ever. From joining all the Motown greats for a performance at the White House (an amazing soulful performance you can view thanks to PBS.org), to Mr Tom Gossin flashing his sexy side in a spread in Cosmopolitan Magazine, to the new release climbing the charts, "Wanna Take You Home," 2011 promises to be their best year yet.
"Wanna Take You Home" is the first release of a new album that will be out later in the year....
* Updated Post - see and hear Randall's custom Lichty Guitar *
The Saluda Wine Cellar might just be the best kept secret in our little neck of the woods and we're just fine with that, especially when it means seeing a great like Randall Bramblett with an intimate gathering of 30 folks.
It just doesn't get any better. The venue is like stepping back in time one hundred years. Low ceilings, great vibe and great hosts. The mix of performers is diverse and includes talented locals (like our own Jay Lichty coming up April 1st), legends like Randall Bramblett (having performed...
Ukulele Review - Julie Strietelmeier Orders a Custom Lichty Ukulele
When someone as way cool in the world of ukuleles as Julie Strietelmeier dials Jay up and says, I've got to have a custom Lichty, we get pretty excited. Julie is the gal behind the website Ukulele Review, which is yet another great site for ukulele fans. The mix of postings include instrument reviews, a heads-up on fun uke videos and much more. Definitely swing by and check it out.
Here is a bit about Julie, in her own words (from the site) ... My name is Julie Strietelmeier and I’m obsessed with...
Custom Ukulele Fuels Magical Collaboration
Jay and I have just returned from a magic show presented by Asheville magician Bill Grimsley (www.billgrimsley.com)at one of our local schools. Now, I admit, hanging out in the gym with elementary kids, watching scarves turn into doves and doves into bunnies is not something we would normally be doing in the middle of the day but we had a blast. If you are wondering what the heck this has to do with Lichty Guitars read on.
Many of you may have read our past posts regarding an LA magician who commissioned a custom ukulele and in turn (as a thank you)...
