We are looking forward to all of the inspiration and good-times to be had at the Guild of American Luthiers 2017 Convention in Tacoma, Washington. If you are attending please come by and say hello to us at the luthier exhibit!
When and Where: July 19th-23rd at the Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma Washington
From http://www.luth.org:
“The original great and glorious festival of lutherie, often copied but never duplicated, the Guild of American Luthiers Convention/Exhibition is legendary and highly anticipated in the lutherie community. It’s another avenue the Guild uses to bring together luthiers from everywhere, of all specialties and skill levels, seasoned pros and part-timers, in a spirit of cooperation and camaraderie.
It features four-and-a-half days of stimulating educational lectures, demonstrations, and workshops presented by respected luthiers on a wide range of topics of interest to the lutherie community; an exhibition of member instruments where members have an opportunity to show their creations and receive feedback from their fellow luthiers; sale of lutherie woods, tools, and supplies; three nights of concerts and open mikes; and the GAL Benefit Auction.
GAL Conventions are open to anyone who wants to participate. Registration is required to attend and only members can exhibit. Any member can exhibit their instruments or lutherie supplies (additional fee for supplier exhibits). On-campus lodging and meals will be available. Guild members will receive registration information with the Spring 2017 issue of American Lutherie and notification when online registration is open.
Our exhibition will be open to the public at no charge on the afternoon of Saturday, July 22 for anyone who would like to see the instruments and meet their makers but not register for the entire event.
Our first GAL Convention was held in the summer of 1975 and we’ve had twenty more since then. Our conventions are currently held every 2-3 years in Tacoma, Washington. To see what a GAL Convention is like, check out the photos of our last five conventions! Or order our Luthiers Show & Tell DVD to see luthier interviews back into the ’80s.”
