Lichty Guitars’ Warranties Have Teeth – a Testimonial
Mark Kohls is a very happy Lichty instrument owner. He recently took time to share his experience working with Jay regarding our lifetime warranty. We are so happy that Mark had a great experience and so grateful that he wants to share his story!
I purchased a Kiku from Jay Lichty and was more lucky than most in that I had, through a unique set of circumstances, the opportunity to see and play it before I bought her (I might add that I still have not had the opportunity to meet Jay, or Corrie, in person). I noticed a slight “grayish” discoloration on the Spruce top, but it was so small I totally disregarded it… then gradually over the next ten months the discoloration spread up along both outer sides of the top. The growth was so gradual that I was not convinced that my eyes weren’t playing tricks. However, the discoloration became so obvious that about 4 weeks ago I contacted Jay by email and sent him pictures (I live in California and Jay is N. Carolina). Within a few hours, Jay sent me a text and asked that I call him. When we spoke, the conversation was to the point: Jay began with… “Something is Not Right!” It was obvious there was nothing wrong with Jays’ Craftmanship… but there was obviously something very strange in the aging/discoloration of the wood. Jays solution was Quick and Easy: “I will replace the top at no cost to you. Additionally, I will email you a prepaid shipping label BUT please mail me the instrument on a day that will ensure it will get to me without having to spend the night on a truck.” I got the label, shipped the instrument, and then received periodic reports (email, phone & photos) that kept me apprised of the repair status. AND, when it came back the whole instrument was buffed to perfection. I got my Kiku back in Brand New condition, before Christmas, and am ECSTATIC about the way she LOOKS & SOUNDS!
Remember, I had this instrument nearly a year and my issue was a major one, but not a manufacturer defect! It was CORRECTED WITHOUT QUESTION!
As part of any purchase we all look at warranties and trust that they will be available, should we ever need them. Far too often however, consumers are disappointed when told that the warranty coverage they thought they had, as part of the purchase price, does not exist for one reason or another. I am writing this to attest to the fact that Jay Lichty stands behind the products he crafts. You can not only believe what people say about the look, tone, craftsmanship, quality and sound of Lichty instruments, but you can also believe the written warranty that comes with each instrument Jay creates. This Luthier HONORS HIS WORD!
