Mel Bay Publications is an American publisher of materials for musical instrument playing, particularly instructional, books that teach a particular instrument or style. Founded in 1947 by player Mel Bay, it is estimated that sales of the bestseller Modern Guitar Method series are well in excess of 20 million copies. Ten versions of Mel Bay Sessions webzines come out monthly, including Guitars Sessions, Mandolin Sessions and Ukulele Sessions. Each publication is packed with tips, resources and lessons.

“Outside forces affect the choices all of us make in our lives, sometimes those choices have a greater impact on our lives than we could possibly imagine. Jay Lichty has been a lifelong musician and ran a successful home building business. When Jay’s love of music and the poor economy collided, he decided to fill in some of the down time building a ukulele, while waiting for things to turn around.
